Zara Khan
Your Labour Councillor for Chorley East
My name is Zara Khan, I am 28 and was born and raised in Chorley. I have been Labour Councillor on Chorley Borough Council for 7 years now.
I am both a qualified nurse and Midwife and currently work full-time as a Midwife for the NHS, which I feel privileged to call myself part of. It can be challenging balancing a full-time job as a professional with local council duties, but I do enjoy being an active part of the local community.
As a young BAME woman, I feel it is important to show that we can pursue interests such as politics even though women and BAME women especially are a minority in politics. I have always had great family support. My mum herself is a Chorley Borough Councillor and A Lancashire County Councillor. This is where my interest and exposure developed at an early age, and I became involved in local politics at a grassroots level.
During the challenging times of the Covid-19 pandemic, I did my best to serve the residents of Chorley East and feel we came together as a community in those tough times.
I have multilingual skills and speak four languages, which provides me with the opportunity to keep in touch with most areas of the electorate and serve the community I grew up in.
