Labour Chorley Council Proposes to Freeze Council Tax

Labour run Chorley Council is proposing to freeze Council Tax in the coming year, whilst investing £60m in delivering high quality services.

Chorley Borough’s part of the overall Council Tax bill will remain the second lowest in Lancashire demonstrating value for money for our residents.

We have worked hard to reduce our costs and maintain services to protect what matters most to our residents.  This allows the council to undertake a £60m investment programme without asking our residents for a penny more in council tax.

Chorley Labour recognises that our communities have been going through a huge period of disruption over the last few years, with the ongoing impact of the Cost-of-Living Crisis impacting those who live, work, and do business across Chorley. It is therefore vital that we continue to respond to these challenges by making sure that the right services and support measures are in place to help protect our borough.

Chorley has welcomed the Labour governments decision to provide a 3-year budget funding proposal rather than the single year updates supplied under Boris Johnson & Rishi Sunack . We are helping to keep Chorley residents money in Chorley

Chorley Labour Party remain committed to being ambitious and efficient in tackling funding challenges that we face and have a successful track record of generating savings by doing things differently.

Thanks to this work we continue to be able to invest in front line services:-

  • to provide housing where residents can live well with £638,000 to improve housing standards across the borough and prevent homelessness.
  • to create a green and sustainable borough by investing £353,000 to continue to deliver improvements to Chorley’s Bus Shelter Network and £5.1m in de-carbonisation work on council owned buildings.
  • To inject £50m to deliver the town centre transformation work and residential developments, which will create jobs and attract more visitors to our borough.
  • to invest £2 million across future years to improve green spaces within the borough and increase the number of parks with a Green Flag Status.
  • To support our leisure offer with £4.5m to improve our leisure centres.
  • to provide healthy, safe, and engaged communities by investing £315,000 to launch an enhanced social prescribing service focused on supporting families and early years and,
  • to invest over £200,000 to deliver a health and wellbeing programmes to support the needs of residents across the borough.
