Jean Sherwood
Your Labour Councillor for Chorley North & Astley
I have been a ward councillor for Chorley North & Astley for the past 2 years, working alongside Councillors Adrian Lowe and Alistair Morwood.
I am married with 3 children. My hobbies include bird watching & photography and I am passionate about the environment. I have an extensive background in both nursing and education. I have carried out various roles across both the primary and secondary sectors and have worked as a university lecturer. I have also been a governor at 2 Lancashire schools.
As a borough councillor, I sit on several committees: Governance (substitute), General Purposes, Licensing & Public Safety & Planning. I am also an observer at the Climate Change Workshop. Representing the council for Chorley in Bloom, I am involved in meeting regularly with their team and I also liaise with Streetscene and their relevant managers & officers.
Along with my ward colleagues, I meet regularly with Astley Village Parish Council and have developed a good working relationship both with them and the housing association Places for People and Jigsaw Housing in the north of the ward. In Astley Village, we have worked collaboratively to develop a garden of reflection on Astley village Green and playgrounds on Foxcote & Westway Sports Hub.
I led a Neighbourhood Priority Funding project with St. Joseph’s Primary School and a wildflower meadow has been created for the children to learn about science and biodiversity.
